The legacy of Erik Erikson is described in his theories and work on psychoanalysis and culture. His view of adolescence crisis or task is when a youth struggles with his internal self and values, and the expectations of his culture and life’s history so that he can shape himself into an identity.Erikson has had great intense on developmental psychology and the way young adolescence are construct and the way they describe themselves. He continued to study human development through adulthood and old age, and established that development cannot be staged and limited, that human beings develop until their life is over. His contribution on history and culture on human development was a breakthrough in the field of ego psychology. One of his most important contributions was the analytic process of how an individual and the environment intersect.
Three of the most important theorists in human science who have been handful and have had direct effect on their culture are Erikson, Freud and Marx. These theorists have influenced they way we think about human development in particular Erikson, and his theories on human development during adolescence and young adulthood, it is impossible to think adolescence and not think about Erikson and his theory on identity and psycho-social interactions. His curiosity on human development is a very major quality that Erikson brought to clinical psychology and his scholarly work. He joined groups of scientist on an adventure to explore the social processes that helps to bring a young man of a culture into a particular adulthood.
Erikson has shifted from being an artist and scientist into a theorist and a psychologist. He has been recognized in both America and Europe, his work on human development although criticized like some of Freud’s, has opened the way for the study of development in adolescence and young adulthood.
