Makale Özeti: REFLECTIONS ON RATIONAL-EMOTIVE THERAPY

ABC theory shows that people experience undesirable activating events and they have rational or irrational beliefs about the events. Thus they produce functional emotional and behavioral consequences about events with their rational beliefs or they create dysfunctional consequences with their irrational beliefs. Unrealistic and illogical self-talk about unfortunate life events cause emotional disturbances.
Ellis differentiate general RET, which is known as synonymous with cognitive behavioral therapy, from preferential RET. Preferential RET is unique kind of cognitive therapy that have an common points with cognitive-behavioral therapy but also differ from it in several significant ways:
1. When people make irrational demands on themselves, on others or on conditions which they live they tend to construct musts, unrealistic inferences
2. To help people overcome their dysfunctional beliefs RET only shows them their unrealistic inferences. It teaches them how to arrange that they rarely change their preferences to grandiose demands and make them less up settable.
3. RET states that cognitions, emotions and behaviors are interact each other so feelings and behaviors have an important influence on beliefs. Those beliefs affect on feelings and behaviors so that feelings affect beliefs and behaviors. Moreover, RET is multimodal and uses number of cognitive, emotive and behavioral methods for the clients.
4. RET theorizes that people often are predisposed to use their disturbance-creating musts and irrational beliefs. RET tries to teach clients to think, fell and act against their demands. It uses a number of emotive-evocative techniques.
