Chronic pain has variety backgrounds for people’s society. Chronic pain has lots of reasons; for example it can be physical or emotional. Biopsycosocial treatment is the most effective way for treating chronic pain and this model allows for an interdiciplinary treatment approach. Biopsycosocial model observe and treat in very different ways, including medicine, physical therapy, behavioral health, and other different disciplines. MMPI-2 is identifying psychopathology in subjects with chronic occupational spinal disorders. Chronic occupational spinal disorders recognized in the psychiatric literature as the floating profile. Floating profile related to psychopathology but Disability Profile is more useful descriptor of specific psychopathology.

In this study, experimenters utilized the SCID I and II for DSM-IV diagnoses and data obtained with MMPI-2. The use of the MMPI-2 as a pre-treatment screening measure has become standard procedure in many pain practices and different profiles analyze in this study with MMPI-2. Normal profile, Neurotic Triad, Conversion V and Disability Profile completed with COSD participants. The purpose of this study is to the understanding of the utility of the “Disability Profile” in evaluating and treating chronic pain. Participants selected very different pain population. These participants were categorized with 4 specific patterns of Clinical Scale elevation with MMPI-2 (NP, NT, CV and DP). For this study, additional psychosocial, physical, and behavioral measures were collected during intake and were compared for the sample of participants with the four specific MMPI-2 profile classifications. Total number of participants was 755. In this study, there are six pain categories. A total of 668 participants had received diagnoses, at the time data were analyzed, that were classifiable into 1 of six major pain categories. These are musculoskeletal, neuropathic visceral pain, vascular/Headache and fibromyalgia.

Minesota Multiphastic Personality Inventory-Second Edition (MMPI-2) is a 567 item self reported measure of personality and psychopathology. In this study, it used in the assessment of musculoskeletal chronic pain subject. Oswestry Disability Questionnaire (ODW) had 10 item scales and each question is rated from 0 and 5. Higher scores present higher degrees of self-perceived functioning impairment. Questions concern to pain intensity, personal care, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, travelling, social activities, sleeping, and degree of improvement. West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory-2 (MPI-2) is a self administered 56 item inventory. It is related to people’s coping style with pain. Medical Outcomes Shortform-36 Health Status Questionnaire (SF-36) has 36 item self report inventories. It assesses health related quality of life in physical and mental areas. Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) is a 21 item multiple choice test. It measures depression’s behavioral signs with ranges. Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D) consists of an interview with structured format. It measures symptomatology of depression and has 17 items and it has multiple concepts ranked on 3-5 point scales. Million Visual Analog Scale (MVAS) is composed of 15 self report items with response on a visual analog scale. 0 represent an absence of pain and 10 represent the highest degree of physical pain.

In the end of the study, experimenters found that pain population has a number of individuals who demonstrate a pattern of behavior consistent with the initial findings of the DP characteristics. The population which includes DP characteristics has more complications during treatment. Also they will need more interventions during treatment.
