Mental health professionals and researchers in the college area talk about increase in the use of counseling center in the campus by college students. This problem is not about the increase of the mental problem but it is related to complexity of the some dual diagnoses. But some researches showed that college students have increased elevations on some clinical scales, for example; scale 2; it measure depression, scale 4; it measure psychopathic deviate, scale 6; it measure paranoia, and scale 9; it measure mania. That result reflects that possible substantial increase in mental health concerns in this college population. In order to assess and describe symptoms of mental problems, researchers used MMPI-2.Because MMPI is good explanation of people’s psychopathology or problems of their personality.
The MMPI–2–RF is a revised version of the MMPI–2. Its aim is provide large assessment of personality and psychopathology. Resturaction form (RF) is about resturucting clinical scales in the MMPI-2. Total number of participants was 846 undergraduate students (264 men and 582 women). Range of age was between18 to 48 years old. 738 participants were Caucasion, 40 participants were African American and 27 participants are not report their ethnicity. The MMPI-2-RF and six criterion measures were aministered to college students. Six criterion measures are assessing anger, assertiveness, sex roles, cognitive failures, social avoidance and social fear.
Researcher’s aim is to examine convergent and discriminant validity of scores on the MMPI-2 –RF specific problems and interest scale. MMPI-2-RF has 338 true/false items. This test is self-report inventory to assess individual’s characteristics. Anger Idiom Scale (AIS) have 11 items and it measures behavioral manifestation of anger and its response type is likert type scale (1=strongly disagree, 4=strongly agree). Assertivess Self Report Inventory (ASRI) assess behavioral and effective dimensions of assertiveness and it have 25 items and its total score is obtained by reverse scoring and then adding the number of items in the keyed direction. Bem Sex Role Inventory (BRSI) assesses masculinity and femininity. It consists of 60 questions and its response type 7 point likert type scale.
All criterion measures and MMPI-2 completed during in a single session and scoring MMPI-2-RF should not affect reliability of scales’ scores. The results of this research is associations between MMPI–2–RF scale scores with a number of criterion measure scores supported both convergent and discriminant validity of MMPI–2–RF scale scores. There are some limitation of this research; these are criterion measures did not give effort in order to assess each of the each of the unique constructs measured by the Specific Problems and Interest scale sets and some of the criterions for example BEM’ s Masculine and Feminine scale scores did not related to hypothesized MMPI-2-RF scale scores. Future studies should carry about many and varied Specific Problems scale found on the MMPI-2-RF.
